I had reached the point where I was tired of hearing “Girl you put on so much weight”, “You’re fat”.... The mirror was no longer my friend and my self-esteem was at an all time low. My clothes just weren’t fitting as they usually would, and on the scale I was at my heaviest. It was time to do something. I wanted to lose weight and was determined to get it off! That’s when I heard about Bodies In Motion!
I visited the website and peruse all the information. I was especially impressed when most people said they lost the weight, the time frame in which it was lost and the fact that they were able to keep it off. I knew I wanted to try this! I’ve been to gyms before and it was as though I wasn’t getting what I wanted.
When I signed up with Kenny, despite trying to have an opened mind, I was extremely scared. I decided to take it easy and start with the 8 week programme. My first few sessions were very tough and I quickly realised that nutrition and exercise go hand in hand. Endurance and perseverance were also very important as I kept my goal of losing 10 pounds in mind. Kenny is very encouraging. I really have come a long way. I have seen great results in my first 8 weeks; losing 13lbs of fat and gaining 5lbs of muscle. I am more comfortable in my clothes and myself. I didn’t know what to expect when I first signed up to work out with Kenny, but after the first week I had a good idea what it was all about. I wanted to lose a little weight, strengthen my core and get in better shape, and decided to go with a training program that would give me a great exercise program to help me reach my fitness goals. It didn’t take long to realize that having Kenny as a trainer was truly a blessing.
The environment was ideal, the workouts were tough, but the results were dynamite. Kenny is a great motivator and is able to take you to the highest level workout. I trained off and on during the years but due the demands of my job it became more off than on. I knew that I was gaining weight and becoming more and more uncomfortable with how I felt but it hit me like a ton of bricks when I finally got on the scale to realize that I was the heaviest I have ever been in my life. Kenny can attest to the fact that I was very, very upset.
I can happily say that through training with Kenny I was able to lose 20 pounds and have maintained the loss, which has always been a challenge for me. Not only have I lost the weight but my fitness level has improved in leaps and bounds. Living overseas was much easier to eat healthy and lose weight. I could try every diet in the book from the South Beach, Weight Watchers, and Slimming World. They all worked but as soon as you stop the diet the weight come back on and more. When I return to Barbados the weight just started to pile on. One day I was talking to my neighbor Simone and she told me about Kenny and how good he is, so I decided, what the hell I have nothing to lose so why not let’s try it.
At times it was very challenging for me. I would just tell myself stick with it Chick its going to help you in the long run. They were a few times I was tempted to eat the wrong things but I did not. I’m a caterer and that was the most challenging but I tried very hard to be strong.
I did the 8 week program and lost 16.5 lbs and 10 inches from my body. I’m still shocked at how easy and FUN it was to lose the weight which made me quickly realize that it’s not about diet, just a different way of looking at food and exercise. I now enjoy my food rather than spending time counting calories. I find that I have more energy for not carrying around those extra pounds with me. Having reached my maximum weight ever of just over 190lbs, I was frustrated with my weight and having tried to exercise on my own I realized that I needed a disciplined exercise regime. A work mate suggested I try Bodies In Motion and guaranteed me that results would occur. I signed up for the program and I must say that I was never athletically inclined however I soon realize if I was to be successful in the program I had to discover my hidden athletic ability. The program was intense and hard work but Kenny and the girls provided the encouragement and fun atmosphere that is needed. As a result I have now lost some 13lbs and am looking forward to the next programme where I intend to lose 15-20 lbs. I have learnt that weight lost is a lifestyle you have to be committed to it. My weight loss efforts began May 2011 with Bodies in Motion (BIM), Beach Body Fit (BBF) Program. I started many exercise programs and if I did not see results the first week I gave up. I expected same day/week results. It was then I decided it did not take me two weeks to become overweight and it would not take me two weeks to get it off. I would never tell you that it is/was easy but I am convinced, if I can do it, you can also.
The more I kept at it, felt and saw results the more I want it – fitness. I’ve become addicted. Yes, it is hard work, it is dedication, and it is discipline but you have to do it for YOU. People would say ‘You are too FAT’ ‘You need to work out’ ‘OMG, You’re eating that’? My Daughter would say “Mummy you are fat”, “Mummy don’t laugh, your belly is all over the place when you do”. Couple of weeks/months later… ‘You are getting TOO SKINNY’ ‘You need to stop’ ‘You look bad’. However in the BIM group you would find a core of motivational participants. Every session presented another challenge and we struggled together. When that last rep seemed like hell, someone is always there with the encouraging word to push through. When I underestimated myself, the trainer was there let me know in no uncertain terms “You’re selling yourself short”. Thanks Kenny.
Certain foods were a major challenge. The macaroni pie, fried chicken, CHIPS, fast food, white bread OMG. I’m not telling you that I did not slip sometimes but the times I didn’t it felt AWESOME! The fact that I now make better choices feels even better! My thinking was if I can do this everyone else can. Today, seven months after I started my journey I am 45lbs less. It is possible to lose weight, get fit and be healthy. You have to find a program that suits you as an individual. Find a group that challenges you, motivate each other, work together and you will accomplish all your goals.

I’ve been fighting with my fat for many years now and despite the endless gym memberships, personal trainers, and do- it- myself efforts, nothing had really worked for me over the years; the weight just kept coming on like some uninvited guest and refused to leave. Then I found Bodies in Motion and in February 2011, I took the plunge and signed up with the program.
It was hard work: my knees hurt, my ankles hurt, my back hurt, my heart hurt, my fat hurt! Not all at the same time, thank goodness, but eventually, thanks to Kenny, all over me hurt. But it got better, as the weight came off, my knees did not hurt so much, and then the rest of me did not hurt so much either.
For most of the training period, I was careful about what I ate. I cut back on a lot of the unnecessary carbohydrates in the average Bajan diet. I increased my water intake significantly, and cut back on my previous stress reliever known as alcohol. Exercise became my stress reliever of choice. To date I have lost 32lbs of body fat and I feel great. I will continue to press on along with Kenny’s inspiring group of wonderful and interesting characters/clients (Go Teacher!!!), the support you get is very encouraging. I have them to thank along with Kenny and Ivor for pushing me to go on when I feel that exhaustion will make me quit.
I would encourage anyone to give Bodies in Motion a real try. Don’t give up after the first week or two because of the initial soreness. If you can last for at least the first month, you can make it work for the entire series. It’s a mind set and you can make it work for you. The rewards in better health and increased energy are more than worth it; the compliments that you receive when you’re looking good don’t hurt either!!!
